The Dominican Republic occupies over half of the Island of Hispaniola. The island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in December, 1492 on his first voyage to the new world. The city of Sosua is situated on the north coast of the Dominican Republic in an area sometimes called the “Amber Coast” because of the large deposits of amber found in the area.
Merlin Dive Center is located a short 10 minute drive from the Puerto Plata International Airport and conveniently located just steps from the beautiful Sosua Beach. Established as one of the first dive centers in Sosua, Merlin is a professional PADI Scuba diving Center offering a complete line of dive services. As a member of the PADI dive community we are part of the largest diving association in the world.
The Merlin Dive Center offers a complete range of services. Our courses range from Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba through Dive Master Training. Of course, we offer scuba and snorkeling trips to the best dive sites in the north coast. Reef and wreck dives are available to certified divers. You will find that our professional staff prides itself on its reputation for the finest customer service in the area. We seek to make your vacation a complete success and will assist you in all of your vacation needs in the area.
There are over nineteen dive sites within a short 10 to 15 minute boat ride from shore. Sites like the Airport Wall, Coral Garden, and the wreck of the Zingara are all easily reached. For the more experienced diver we also have cave diving. Both compressed air and nitrox are available.
Sosua Beach is located along the head of the crescent shaped Sosua Bay. A beautiful sand beach, is a great place to sunbath, swim or enjoy a cool drink and a meal under a canopy of spreading almond tree branches that line the beach. Additionally, along with food and drink, shops along the beach offer a complete array of souvenirs and interesting shopping adventure awaits the inquisitive adventurer in the variety of colorful shops.
While scuba and snorkeling are our business, making your vacation a total success is our intention. The Sosua area contains a wide range of other activities to enhance your vacation experience. Beautiful beaches, water sports ranging from deep sea fishing to glass bottom boats, wind surfing, day cruises on a (state size) catamaran, nature trail hiking and ATV tours are just a few of the wide range of other vacation opportunities avail to you. Do you like tennis, horseback riding, canoeing, mountain biking; if so they are all available here.
There is a rich nightlife available in Sosua. Nightclubs, discotheques, and restaurants offering an international variety of fare are easily within walking distance. The evenings offer a party atmosphere for those who seek it. There is a wide range of accommodations available to meet the taste and wallet of everyone. We have partnered with the El Rancho Hotel in the center of Sosua and would be happy to assist you make reservation or provide additional information, if you desire it.
